Ross was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in the Southeast United States. He received has Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry in 1981 at South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Ross was awarded an athletic scholarship for swimming at this predominantly African-American college.

He moved to Darrington, WA in 1980 to work for the US Forest Service on a fire crew. After working in the woods for seven years, including logging for Reese Bros., he return to school to pursue a career in medicine. Mr. McConahey graduated Magna Cum Laude when receiving his bachelor degree as a Physician Assistant in 1988.

His interest in medicine is primary care with a focus in urgent care. He enjoys the challenge of not knowing what problem or situation will walk through the door.

Mr. McConahey’s wife, Eileen, is a pediatric Occupational Therapist that works with children that have developmental delays. They will celebrate their 25th anniversary this August. They both enjoy back packing, white water rafting, mountain biking, and swimming. In the spring of each year Ross is an avid wild turkey hunter.
